When you hear the words “Rice Balls”, this is probably the first thing that pops into your mind:
But did you know Italians have their own kind of rice balls, called Arancini? They are many shapes and sizes, and have existed in Italy for quite a while, since the 10th Century in Sicily. The name means “little orange” as they are generally the same size and shape of the aforementioned fruit. They can, however, be smaller or even larger. Some are even oval shaped, representing the volcano Mt. Etna. They are breaded on the outside and are sometimes filled in with meat on the inside. Give them a try!
